City will be closing Kailua Beach Park parking lots beginning November 13, for crosswalk restriping improvements. The rotating closures at the three parking lots is scheduled to end on November 16.
The crosswalks will be installed at parking lot driveways located near the boat ramp, canoe halau, and bathhouse.
The crosswalk for the boat ramp parking lot will be marked at the lot entrance where Alala Road turns into Mokulua Drive at the intersection with Kaneapu Place. That painting requires the parking lot to be closed for two days — November 13 to 14, from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Driveways for the other two lots, bordering the Kaelepulu Stream along Lihiwai and Kawailoa roads, are scheduled to be closed for one day each during the same hours. The canoe halau lot will be closed on November 15, and the bathhouse lot on November 16. Residential traffic, entering from Kailua Road near Kalapawai Market, will be allowed to pass through the November 16 closure.
These timelines are subject to weather conditions and may require rescheduling.
The crosswalk striping improvements to these three park driveways is being conducted at the request of the Department of Transportation Services to promote the safe and orderly movement of vehicular traffic, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
Previous work at these three parking lots was conducted in August 2017, which included the sweeping, stall restriping, and landscaping of the lots.
