Judge ‘disappointed’ in state over Waimanalo land dispute

Local News

The state lost a round in court Monday over a land dispute in Waimanalo.

It’s a story KHON2 has been following since last week.

At issue is five acres of land off of Waikupunaha Street.

The family of Francine Komomua says the land belongs to her, but the state says the land belongs to the Department of Agriculture.

In court Monday, the issue of concern was the accidental spread of little fire ants on the far side of the property.

The judge was upset that no one bothered to check on the potential problem.

“I’m extremely disappointed that your client (the state) didn’t have people there this weekend to survey the area in question,” said Judge Gary Chang.

The state will continue to press its complaint that it owns the property.
