According to our sister station WKRN in Nashville, Tennessee, rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota will not play Sunday against Houston, but his season is not over yet, according to head coach Mike Mularkey.
Earlier Monday national reports indicated Mariota was done for the season with an injury to his right knee suffered in yesterday’s game in New England.
A Titans source told News 2 those reports were “premature.” Mularkey says Mariota will be reevaluated next week before the Titans wrap up with the season in Indianapolis.
Mariota left the game after being sacked with about 10 minutes left in the second quarter and did not return, but Coach Mularkey said after the game they did consider fitting him with a brace and putting him back in.
Zach Mettenberger finished the game for Tennessee throwing for 249 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions and will start the final two games against the Texans and Colts.
Mariota has 2,818 yards passing, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. During the season, he tied Peyton Manning’s rookie record with four games with at least three touchdown passes.
