Improvements to roads, parks among priorities in Kauai mayor’s State of the County address

Local News

Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho delivered his State of the County address Thursday.

His proposed budget for the next fiscal year includes a $214 million operating budget and a $40 million capital improvement budget.

Some of his administration’s priorities include: upgrading and maintaining the county’s parks, adding more electric vehicles to the county’s fleet, and improving the roads.

“Here’s what I want you to remember, we are increasing road repairs and reconstruction made possible by the half percent increase in the GET surcharge,” said Carvalho.

This was Mayor Carvalho’s tenth and final State of the County address.  He’s running for lieutenant governor.
