Local News

Honolulu Police say the 49-year-old moped rider hit by a van on Kapiolani Boulevard has died.

It happened about 6:40 a.m. Monday near the Ward Avenue intersection.

Police say the van was making a left turn when it hit a moped traveling in the same direction.

The moped rider was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition and later died. The 36-year-old driver of the van was not injured.

A spokesperson for Kamaaina Termite and Pest control confirms its vehicle and employee were involved in the collision, and were told by police that the moped rider died.

The spokesperson says Kamaaina Termite is cooperating with the investigation, and extends condolences to those involved.

Police say at this time speed, alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision. This is the 23rd traffic death on Oahu this year compared to 19 at the same time last year.
