HECO responding to power outages in Honolulu, electricity restored to all Kahuku customers

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Officials with the Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) are responding to multiple power outages in Honolulu on Wednesday, March 10.

Approximately 860 customers were without power in Kahuku around 6 p.m. before power was restored by 8:10 p.m. while 19,590 customers were without power in Kahala, Kapahulu, Palolo, Waikiki, Manoa and Moiliili as of 7 p.m.

An update from HECO at 7:30 p.m. stated that lanes were closed on Hunter Street due to downed power lines caused by a possible lightning strike. Power was restored to customers in Waikiki by 8:30 p.m.

Approximately 800 customers had their power restored in Honolulu around 7:40 p.m., according to HECO officials, and some customers in the Kapahulu area had their power restored by 9:25 p.m.

A HECO update at 9:40 p.m. stated that 940 customers were without power in Makiki due to another power outage.

Crews are currently working on repairs before they safely restore power to the remaining customers.
