Hawaii State Hospital patient Pitts pleads not guilty to escape

Local News

The state hospital patient who went missing last week has plead not guilty.

Allen Pitts was discovered missing last Sunday, after breaking a window the night before.

He was arrested the next night in Waikiki.

Police charged him with escape.

His trial is now set for January.

Pitts was ordered into custody of the hospital two years ago.

He had been acquitted by reason of insanity for a June 2013 rampage through Waikiki in a dump truck.

He hit two parked police cars with officers inside, then drove the wrong way down Kalakaua Avenue and crashed onto the beach.

Nobody was hurt.
