Hawaii fire officials share safety tips ahead of 4th of July weekend

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Fire officials are urging the public to be proactive to prevent fires this 4th of July weekend and throughout summer.

Among the advice given out to local residents and visitors, firefighters say you should:

  • Never leave grills and fire pits unattended
  • Have enough water nearby to extinguish fires after cooking
  • Keeping a 6-foot safe zone around fires, especially for kids and pets
  • In case of fire, have an escape route to a cleared area
