Hawaii cigarette bill dies

Local News

The proposal to ban cigarettes in the state of Hawaii has been held back by the House Health Committee.

The committee explained that the bill was too extreme for the state at this time and there would need to be more feedback from the public before allowing it to become law.

The bill was originally introduced by State Representative Richard Creagan and co-signed by Representatives John Mizuno and Cynthia Thielen.     The ban would have prohibited adults younger than 30-years-old from buying cigarettes and completely ban cigarettes in five years.
