HANALEI, Hawaii (KHON2) — The Flash Flood Warning for Kauai has been canceled, according to the National Weather Service.
Kūhiō Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge was closed around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16 due to flooding. Both lanes of the Highway near Hanalei Bridge were reopened around 1:30 p.m.
Due to the closure of Kūhiō Highway, Ocean Safety officials have announced that the Kē‘ē and Hā‘ena beach lifeguard towers will remain closed Wednesday until further notice.
The state Department of Education announced that Hanalei Elementary School is closed Wednesday.
Additionally, the Kapa‘a Refuse Transfer Station green waste is currently closed due to weather conditions.
A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday afternoon. A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that leads to flash flooding. Residents and visitors should monitor the weather and be prepared to take action in the event that a Flash Flood Warning is issued.
