H-3 Freeway Kaneohe-bound closed for ‘Hawaii Five-0’ filming

Local News

The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises motorists the H-3 Freeway is closed in the Kaneohe-bound direction today, Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Special duty police officers are blocking all on-ramps to the H-3 from 4 a.m. – 3 p.m.

People seeking access to Windward Oahu can use the Likelike Highway or Pali Highway. Halawa-bound traffic will remain open.

The freeway will be used for “Hawaii Five-0” filming. All police officers, enforcement, signs and expenses will be paid by the production company.

In addition to the equipment on the freeway, a helicopter will be used to film some of the scenes.

Motorists are prohibited from stopping on the Halawa-bound side of the freeway to watch the production. The shoulder is only to be used for emergency purposes.

Authorities will monitor the area to make sure drivers maintain a safe and legal speed.

Police, fire and ambulance vehicles on an emergency call will have access to the freeway during the closure.

The last time the H-3 Freeway was shut down was back in 2010, when crews were filming a scene for the movie “Battleship.”
