The first ever micro-unit project is set to be built on Oahu.

Nohona Hale is being constructed on Cooke Street.

There was a groundbreaking for it held earlier Thursday.

Once it’s done there will be one hundred and ten micro units all about 300 square feet.

“Units are smaller,” said Governor David Ige. “300 square-feet which we believe gives the future residents a different kind of lifestyle. It is right on the transit line which we have all talked about for such a long time. Really takes a most remnant parcel, and turns it into a gold mine.”

In order to qualify you have to make 60-percent below the area median income.

There are 11 units be reserved for those making 30-percent below the the median income.

The project should wrap up by January 2020.
