Gift helps UH Athletics come back from deficit

The University of Hawaii Athletics Department is dealing with a projected $3.5 million deficit.

But the department received a big donation from an unknown angel.

An anonymous donor has given the athletics department $1.2 million.

The check was presented during the UH men’s basketball team at the Stan Sheriff Center.

This comes at a time when the financial state of UH athletics has been in need of some help.

“It really is a pick me up it’s a real vote of confidence at a time when the financial situation is a little bit shaky at UH,” said UH Chancellor, Robert Bley-Vroman.”So, it’s especially important for people to give at this time it really makes a big difference especially now.”

This is the second known donation by the same anonymous donor.

The last donation by this donor came in 2011 and was in the amount of $875,000.

How the money will be allocated has not been released.
