Five people were hospitalized Sunday following a hard landing at Kalalau Beach on Kauai involving a Blue Hawaiian tour helicopter.
It happened near the water’s edge around 3 p.m.
Four passengers sustained back injuries, and another was reported to have had minor injuries, according to Kauai County firefighters.
The pilot of the helicopter and another passenger were unharmed.
A rescue crew from the Kauai Fire Department airlifted the five patients to Princeville Airport and from there were transported to Wilcox Hospital by paramedics.
Another Blue Hawaiian helicopter flew to the scene to transport the others to Lihue Airport.
The cause of the hard landing is not known at this time and the FAA is investigating the incident.
Blue Hawaiian Helicopters president and CEO Gregg Lundberg said the damaged helicopter was removed from the beach Monday. A larger helicopter lifted it onto a flatbed truck to be transported to a hangar.
Most of the passengers that were transported to the hospital have been reportedly been released.
The company is back to a normal flight schedule.
