A fire at Jefferson Elementary School in Waikiki on Sunday afternoon damaged the playground.
The Honolulu Fire Department says the playground equipment caught fire at about 3:45 p.m.
A witness who called 911 was concerned about the small fire spreading.
“My boy got here first and he was screaming, ‘there’s a fire,’ and it was little, little tiny small fire though,” said Hide Hirayama. “And it was windy right? So it grow so fast that’s why I called 911.”
Firefighters were there within three minutes. The blaze was isolated to the playground.
Honolulu police were also on scene to investigate.
No word if the fire was intentionally set.
