FDA warning about dietary supplements

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is cracking down on dietary supplements.

The FDA has sent warning letters to companies that illegally market their products as cures, treatments or preventatives for serious illnesses like Alzheimer’s, Diabetes, and cancer.
The FDA plans to roll out new tools to alert the public of safety issues with a product.
Dietary supplements are not reviewed by the FDA before they hit the shelves. 

The agency will get involved if they are deemed unsafe or carry misleading claims.
About three-quarters of Americans take dietary supplements regularly.
