Expect increased noise, activity due to military training on Oahu

Expect increased noise and activity this month in the vicinity of Wheeler Army Airfield, Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe, and Marine Corps Training Area Bellows.

Several training events are scheduled as follows:Wheeler Army Airfield

Feb. 8, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

There will be a scheduled landing of an Air Force C-17 Globemaster III in support of the Army training exercise “Lightning Forge.”

Lightning Forge is the 25th Infantry Division’s largest training exercise on Oahu.

Aircraft times are subject to change as the training is contingent on weather that could impact visibility or safe runway conditions.

Mondays-Thursdays: 7 a.m.-midnight

Fridays: 7 a.m.-10 p.m.

Saturdays: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

All month with exceptions: Feb. 8-10 and Feb. 15-19, 24-hour operations

There will be an increase in military aircraft and ground operations due to multiple training events at both locations. F/A-18 Hornet aircraft will be temporarily based at MCB Hawaii for approximately 30 days starting mid-February; these aircraft will follow normal airfield hours. Additionally, there will be periods of 24-hour airfield operations, and maintenance may occur overnight to ensure the safe operation of all aircraft.

Airfield hours may change without notice due to operational commitments. Aircraft maintenance will occur 24 hours a day as required to maintain aircraft safety.

Bellows Beach Park located at MCTAB will be closed due to amphibious operations from Feb. 19-22, and is expected to reopen at noon on Feb. 26. Click here for more information.
