The elderly woman who died on Maui Saturday after being hit by a car operated by an 11-year-old has been identified by the Maui Medical Examiner’s office.
She was Sueno Saito, 87, of Haiku.
Maui police say the boy was behind the wheel of a sedan when it backed out of a parking stall at the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center in Kahului Saturday.
Saito was knocked down by the driver’s side door and was transported to Maui Memorial Medical in critical condition.
Police confirmed the next day, Sunday, that Saito died after succumbing to her injuries at the hospital.
The car that was operated by the boy also hit another vehicle before coming to a stop.
The boy and the driver of the second vehicle were uninjured.
