On Molokai, a clean up has begun of a large ball of nets in Halawa Valley.

KHON2 first reported this in February after residents reported it to the state.

It’s been difficult to remove because of its remote location.

It’s also in an area with a lot of historical significance.

So residents and the Department of Land and Natural Resources have been cutting it up by hand.

“Right now what we’re doing is we’re actually cutting up net by hand,” said Molokai resident Greg Solatorio. “We’re putting it into big bags. Sowly we’re going to get it I believe air lifted out into an area where it can be properly  disposed of.”

If you see a net, report it to the DLNR.
