Community input wanted on bike lanes

Local News

The city wants to hear from you on two new bike lane projects.

The proposal for Pensacola Street from Wilder Avenue to Waimanu Street includes a 2-way protected bike lane on the Diamond Head side of the road.

This will impact about 30 on-street parking stalls.

There are also plans for Ward avenue from King Street to Ala Moana Boulevard to add a one-way protected bike lane on each side of the road. About 40 on-street parking stalls will be taken out there.

“But Ward and Pensacola are very important,” said Department of Transportation Services deputy director Jon Nogucchi. “They connect one of the most residentially dense neighborhoods in the urban core in Makiki. Ward is up and coming with the development of Kakaako.”

A public meeting will be held to discuss these projects. It will be March 22 at the Blaisdell Center Pikake room from 6 to 8 p.m.
