The state Department of Health Clean Water Branch (CWB) has issued Brown Water Advisories for all east facing shores on Oahu and for Waimea Bay.
East facing shores include the area from Kahuku to Makapuu.
The advisories are due to recent heavy rains.
CWB advises the public to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to “possible overflowing cesspools, sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris.”
Not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff.
If coastal waters are turbid and brown, CWB says to stay out of the water and continue to practice good personal hygiene. Follow up with your primary care physician if you have any health concerns.
