A small boat caught fire and burned just outside of Maunalua Bay.
Officials received a call at a little after 11 a.m.
Only the owner was on board at the time of the fire. He did not know how it started.
The man jumped off the boat after grabbing a life vest and was picked up by a dive boat before he was brought to shore.
“He made his way off the vessel, was picked up by a bystander, brought in to shore,” said Honolulu Fire Department acting battalion chief Brett Mau. “The owner is not injured and the boat eventually ended up sinking.”
He had just purchased the 2007 Cobalt 262 a few months ago and had it shipped to Hawaii.
The owner said he does have insurance.
