Arrest made after two turtles found slaughtered in past week

A Kauai man has been arrested and charged in connection with the slaughter of a green sea turtle.

According to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, witnesses saw the suspect slice a turtle’s throat on Kekaha Beach and take its meat.

Bronson Nakaahiki, 32, was arrested and charged with take of an endangered species. State sheriffs transported him into custody. He was released pending a court appearance.

This is the second turtle killing in the past week. Last weekend, a turtle was found dead at Onekahakaha County Beach Park in south Hilo. It’s two front flippers were amputated.

No one’s been arrested in that case.
