Arborist gives warning for Hawaii and Maui homeowners

Local News

Several trees on Oahu fell onto cars and roads after Lane left the state.

KHON2 spoke to a certified arborist who says homeowners should remove broken and dead branches from trees as soon as possible before any storm.

“Any place in Puna that has Albizia trees near homes should automatically be removed as quickly as possible,” certified arborist Steve Nimz said.

“In Upcountry Maui, there’s a lot of Eucalyptus trees. They can be maintained to reduce the potential of trees failing,” he said.

Nimz says during a storm, drivers should avoid areas with a lot of trees such as the Road to Hana.
