“The stuffed animals that are collected will be shared with children who have suffered from child abuse.  These stuffed animals provide children with happiness and comfort,” explains Elsie Foster, Teddy Bear Round-Up Volunteer Chairperson.  “Our profound wish is that one day there is no need for a Teddy Bear Roundup because there will be no abused children.”

The day will be filled with free fun activities for families and children and beneficial parenting information. In addition, top local entertainers Island Storm and Street Jamz will be featured at the stage area. The annual event is sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii which is the Hawaii Chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America and other sponsors from the Foster Realty, Child Abuse Prevention Planning Council, and Department of Health.

Dozens of volunteers including members of Aloha Pono and Kaneohe Lions Clubs, Child Abuse Prevention Planning Council,  and Hawaii title holders will be there to collect teddy bears from the public. Even cuddly costume characters Elmo and friends will be there to lend a helping hand and will be available for free picture-taking with the public.

According to the State of Hawaii Department of Human Services December 2017 Databook, there were about 3,702 reports of child abuse and neglect in calendar year 2017 reported to Child Protective Services, of which 1,297 were confirmed reports.
