Residents in the Enchanted Lake area say they are relieved after getting word that wildlife living nearby will be around for a little longer.
The ducks, geese and chickens are living in an area off Keolu Drive owned by Kamehameha Schools.
A representative for the schools said it had originally taken steps to remove the non-native animals from the area, but it’s suspended that effort for now.
Community members say they had reached out in opposition.
“There must probably be 15, 20 ducks and geese and that sort of thing,” said Stephen Kofsky, Enchanted Lake resident. “All the neighbors in the area are very, very concerned about that. We don’t want to see the lake lose this wonderful, natural thing that we’ve had for years and years.”
Kamehameha says it will work with the community to find the best solution for these animals.
