Portions of approximately 330 acres are still smoldering after a report Thursday in North Kona of brush fires along Highway 190 between the 15-17 mile markers and the Daniel K. Inouye Highway between the 48-50 mile markers.
The cause of the pasture land and open field fires is undetermined at this time, but the fires started at approximately the same time.
The first unit arrived on scene a little after 4 p.m. Thursday. Light, flashy fuels, moderate brush and wooded trees were involved.
Bucket drops from a helicopter and handlines from participating agencies were used to fight the fires.
No injuries or loss of property were reported.
