Residents at an affordable housing site in Aiea celebrated a recent home makeover Wednesday.
A dedication ceremony was held for the newly renovated Halawa View Apartments complex on Kalaloa Street.
Residents received new energy-efficient bathrooms, kitchens, and floor coverings.
“The theme of the renovation of Halawa View Apartments was sustainability. Green construction techniques, recycling of materials, the installation of low flow faucets and fixtures and energy star appliances helped us contribute to a healthier environment.” said Joe Michael, vice president of Pacific Development Group.
The 14-story property consists of one high-rise and two mid-rise buildings, with 121 rental units, including 24 Section-8 units. It was originally built in the early 1970s.
Halawa View Apartments is one of two sustainable affordable housing projects renovated by California-based Pacific Development Group in partnership with Hawaiian Community Development Board. The first one, Kewalo Apartments, was developed and dedicated in June 2015.
Developers say Halawa View Apartments is one of the first largest multifamily affordable housing renovation projects to pursue LEED Certification in Hawaii.
