223 Hawaii vehicles affected by Toyota voluntary safety recall

Local News

Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., announced it will conduct a voluntary safety recall on the following Toyota models:

  • Certain 2014 through 2015 Model Year RAV4
  • Certain 2015 Model Year Camry equipped with V6 engine
  • Certain 2015 Model Year Camry Hybrid Vehicles
  • Certain 2015 Model Year Highlander
  • Certain 2015 Model Year Highlander Hybrid Vehicles

In the involved Camry, Camry Hybrid, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid and RAV4 vehicles, a circuit board for the electric power steering (EPS) may have been damaged during its manufacturing process. This can result in the loss of power steering assist; an instrument panel warning lamp will also come on.

Manual steering is maintained, but the loss of power steering assist results in increased steering effort at low vehicle speeds and increases the risk of a crash.

Toyota Hawaii says a total of 223 vehicles are affected here in Hawaii. Toyota Hawaii is not aware of any injuries or fatalities in Hawaii caused by this condition.

Toyota is currently preparing the remedy for this condition. Once preparations are complete, notification letters will be sent to owners advising them when they can make an appointment with their nearest authorized Toyota Hawaii Service Center to have the vehicle remedied at no charge.

Toyota owners affected by this recall who notice anything abnormal with the operation of their vehicle should contact their dealership with any questions or concerns.

Toyota Hawaii customers can also call Toyota Hawaii’s Customer Care department at 808-839-2273 (CARE). Customers on the neighbor islands should call 1-888-272-5515 (toll-free).
