Honolulu police have arrested two people for allegedly vandalizing the new Hawaii Law Enforcement Memorial.

A department spokeswoman says a man and a juvenile were arrested in connection with an incident that occurred on May 13.

Bicycle tire markings and skateboard wheel markings were discovered on the memorial a few days before it was dedicated.

Law enforcement officers came on their day off to power wash the walls.

Jayson Campos, 20, was charged with desecration. No details were released about the juvenile.

A second incident was reported on May 17.

A city worker discovered what appeared to be bicycle tire markings all over the memorial. Some even seemed to go right over the name plates of fallen officers.

No arrests have been made in that case.

The memorial honors Hawaii’s fallen officers and is located on Civic Center grounds in downtown Honolulu.
