HONOLULU (KHON) - The 7th Annual Honolulu Ekiden & Music brings Japan’s ekiden tradition of a marathon-length relay race to the islands.
The race is a 26.2 mile course and is set to take place on Sunday, May 19, 2019. The course is divided into six sections with up to six runners per team to complete.
What makes this race so special is not only the fact that it is the only race that takes participants all the way to Sandy Beach, past many iconic sites including Hanauma Bay, Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach, but many of the runners love returning every year to soak up the Hawaii sun and beautiful aloha spirit here in the islands.
Throughout the race, free entertainment will be provided by top local and Japanese artists including Brother Nolan, Na’ehu, Shawn Garnett, Halau Hula Kawai’ulaokala, Tegan and Kaylen and more.
We are excited to have Tegan and Kaylen here today to give a preview of their performance at Honolulu Ekiden & Music.
The race is open to runners of all levels who are ages 10 and up. Honolulu Ekiden & Music is great for all runners, whether you’re an experienced runner or if this is your first time running.
Interested participants can register online at hnlekiden.org.
There is a cost of $60 per person in a team, and $99 per person for those running individually.
The last day to sign up online is tomorrow, May 15, but participants can also sign up on Packet Pick Up Day on May 18 at a higher fee of $70 per person for Ekiden teams or $119 per person for individual entries.
