What is hot yoga and what are the benefits of practicing it?


It’s hot hot hot but oh, it feels so good!

In today’s Fitness Friday, we’re checking out Bikram Yoga Kapolei.  We’ll tell you about the benefits of hot yoga and find out what makes this yoga studio so special!

According to Yoga Instructor and Co-Owner Patricia Carrera, a Bikram yoga class is done in a heated room while maintaining consistent humidity levels.  Each class is 90 minutes and participants are guided through 26 different postures and 2 breathing exercises.  Carrera says the Bikram series is perfect for people of all ages and fitness levels.

Maintaining the heat and humidity levels of the studio was extremely important to the owners during their engineering and build-out phases.  The studio features 20 infrared panels, along with insulated walls, ceiling, and windows. This helps maintain a consistent heat throughout the room and throughout the 90 minute session.  The studio also has a unique HVAC system which allows carbon dioxide to escape the room, and fresh oxygen to be brought in. Many other studios have to open and close doors and windows in order to accomplish this, which in turn allows a lot of heat to escape.  They also have a dehumidifier that helps keep their humidity levels at 40%.
