Every girl deserves to look her best on prom night.
State Rep. Andria Tupola is organizing an event called “This is Me” that allows young women to get a prom dress for free.
It takes place Saturday, March 24, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Kroc Center in Kapolei.
The event is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
“When you come, we’re going to give out numbers. Then we call them 10 at a time. Then they can go into a room where they have a dressing room where they can go through all of the gowns, choose the color and the size. We also have jewelry and shoes that they can choose from. So it’s actually more of a very special experience that a girl has with her mother, grandmother, or father, where they can pick and choose together,” Tupola explained.
More than 300 dresses were donated from community members, non-profit organizations, schools, and churches.
The event will also include a fashion show and guest speakers.
