International Mai Tai Day is on Saturday, June 30, and The Modern Honolulu is celebrating Hawaii’s signature cocktail with a pool party.
From noon to 5 p.m., guests 21 and older can enjoy live music, food specials, and fresh takes on the classic tiki cocktail at the Sunset Pool lagoon.
That includes The Modern Honolulu’s own Deconstructed Mai Tai – Pyrat XO Rum with housemade French almond syrup, topped with a specialty Mai Tai rum float and fresh mint.
“We’re going to be serving tostadas. We’re also going to be serving a whole host of cocktails, as well as our nice mai tais,” teased Aaron Garsombke, senior restaurant and recreation manager.
Prior to the pool party, there will be a free Koloa Rum tasting from 10 a.m. to noon at a satellite bar at The Grove, hosted by Young’s Market. Guests can sample the different varieties of rum, including White, Dark, Spiced, Gold, and Kauai Coconut.
During this time, guests can also enjoy a Kauai Mai Tai for $10 (originally $14), a mix of Koloa Gold Rum, guava juice, and orgeat syrup topped with a dark rum float.
