The 36th Annual Okinawa Festival

Living808

The Okinawa Festival is a weekend full of delicious food, great entertainment, and lots of fun for people of all ages!

This free event has been voted “Hawaii’s Best Ethnic/Cultural Festival” in the Honolulu Star Advertiser’s Hawaii Best People’s Choice Awards (2015 and 2016).

This year’s celebration will be held at the Hawaii Convention Center with two levels of featured entertainment, food and activities.

“The move to the Convention Center is allowing us more space”, says Courtney Takara, President of the Hawaii United Okinawa Association, “We have room for children’s games, a bigger stage for entertainment, and more rooms for activities, such as the Yuimaaru Room that will showcase displays from the Hawaii-Okinawa Restaurant Project, and lots of fun “how to be more Okinawan” workshops.

Special performances from Okinawa will include the winner of Radio Okinawa’s Miuta Taisho (song contest), minyo (folk music), Eisa (drummers), hula, and yui-buyo (line dancing).
