Local family business ‘Gifts By The Sea’ showed off its popular Ohana Rules sign and other handcrafted signs that make fun statements that resonate with locals.
The company started in August 2018 as a dream for the three people behind it: Shane Holomalia, his girflriend Nicole Johnson, and his mom Teri.
In Nicole’s words, “We live in Hawaii and it has been our dream to create hand-crafted products to share our aloha designs with everyone. Our very first sign was made on reclaimed pallet wood, which we painted and glued on the letters to spell ALOHA. We have become much more sophisticated and have created a process, which allows us to print canvas, wood, and tote bags”.
The trio creates all the designs and do all the printing.
Their “Ohana Rules” print has been a best seller by far because it brings a laugh from young kids to an older generation.
It’s a local spin a family rules sign and has been trademarked.
Gifts By the Sea sells to local stores such as HomeGrown in Pearlridge, a few stores in Waikiki, online on Etsy and at all the major craft fairs.
They will be in Waikiki on Kalakaua Ave on Saturday from 4-10 pm for the Spring Street Jam.
