Monsanto Hawaii Monarch Butterfly Program

Monsanto Hawaii knows that monarch butterfly plays an important role as pollinator and as a sustainable agricultural company, Monsanto is committed to restoring its habitat and ecosystem. Through Monsanto Hawaii’s monarch butterfly program, nearly 100 thriving crown flower (Calotropis gigantea) plants have been added to their Kunia and Molokai farms, becoming havens for the Monarch Butterfly. Employees at Monsanto Hawaii’s Kunia farm have planted 58 crown flower shrubs and intend to increase to nearly 100 by the end of this year. On Molokai, a total of 34 crown flower shrubs have been planted.

June 4th is National Butterfly Education and Awareness Day. It takes place the first Saturday in June. Spearheaded by the Association for Butterflies, this day is meant to educate the public and raise awareness of butterflies and their importance as pollinators and their place in nature.
