Money Matters: Tips for local college students heading to the mainland

Living808

Its back-to-school time which means thousands of college students are going back to the mainland. One thing that these students need to consider is where and how they will do their banking.

Many financial institutions are equipped to meet the needs of Hawaii students attending mainland colleges. Local banks and credit unions offer online and mobile banking services that allow the student to access and monitor their accounts from anywhere.

An advantage of choosing a Hawaii bank or credit union is that if a parent is a joint accountholder, they also have access in the event of an emergency or if immediate action is needed on that account. It is probably not uncommon for students to call home with last-minute requests, especially during their first semester away.
