The Lantern Floating Ceremony allows a personal moment to remember, reflect and offer gratitude to those who have gone before us. It is a collective experience where families, friends and even strangers extend warmth, compassion and understanding to support one another. The intent of the ceremony is reflected in the theme, ‘Many Rivers, One Ocean,’ which strives to encourage harmony and understanding in our diverse world through the collective experience of remembering loved ones who have passed.
Justin Goshi, Youth Leader of Shinnyo-en Hawaii, says “the lantern request tent will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until all lanterns are given out on the day of the ceremony.”
This year Shinnyo-en Hawaii has nearly 6,000 lanterns available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. The Lantern Request tent will open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (or until all lanterns are given out) on the day of the ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 6:15 p.m. on Monday May 25 at the Magic Island end of Ala Moana Beach Park.
