There is one name that defines Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and one of Relson Gracies finest students is teaching self defense for men and women.
Black belt-Instructor Todd Tanaka is teaching Jiu Jitsu as a way to relieve stress, clear your mind, and defend yourself.
CW Star Jericho Rell visited Tanaka at the Team HK Training Center to learn a few of the basic but necessary moves.
One of the females in the class, Jamie says, “The women’s self-defense class was a really great segway.
“Jiu-Jitsu” is really intimidating.
You see men doing it, “wrestling” and sweaty with cauliflower ears, it’s not super enticing for a woman to want to do… After the women’s self-defense class, I could see more of the fundamental principles to understanding the techniques.
It’s also a really great workout.
The Instructors and other students are really encouraging, and made it less scary for me to try it out and jump in.
So far, I really love it.
I feel way more confident about myself and though I’m far from being any kind of expert, I’m super happy knowing that I know more than I did before, and that gives me at least a better chance than I did before in the event some kind of attack might happen to me.
Jericho learns 3 different types of moves in her quick self defense lesson.
The first is when an attacker grabs you by the wrist, the second is an attacker choking you against a wall, and the third is being pinned to the ground with an attacker mounted on top of you.
