In Sickness and In Health: Castle Clinic of Laie’s “Country Doctor” is In

In Sickness and In Health

The North Shore is only about an hour drive from town, but it seems like a world away and it takes the right type of doctor and clinic to serve this ‘country” community.

We visited the “Country Doctor” Marc Schlacter who has been serving patients in Laie for nearly 50 years to see how he and the Castle Health Clinic are expanding services to meet growing needs.

As Dr. Schlacter says, “I have been out here for many years.  We have a lot of families out here who work multiple jobs, and it is hard for them to drive an hour to get to specialists. So by bringing them here, we believe it can help in the health of our patients.”

As part of Adventist Health Castle, the Castle Clinic of Laie opened in September of 2015 to increase medical services available on the North Shore.

The clinic is open from  7 am to 7 pm and has a Primary Care Physician, two Nurse Practitioners and is bringing in some specialists, accepting new patients, insurance with almost all carriers.

The Clinic takes all forms of Quest except for Kaiser.

Specialists include OBGYN, ENT, Dental, and by May-June, Behavioral Health services will be offered.

Dr. Schlacter has deep roots in the community over his 49 years, having delivered babies who have grown up and families themselves, even gone to the Super Bowl to watch former Kahuku players and patients.

Patient Pete “Piko” Lakatani sings the Country Doctor’s praises literally, with his ukule, and for helping him lose hundreds of pounds by watching what he eats.

For Laie, The Country Doctor is in and with expansion of services at the Castle Clinic of Laie, Dr. Schlacter looks forward to helping patients for years to come.
