Hawaii’s Kitchen went on the road to the new Mama Pho at Ala Moana Center to see and taste the specials that are made from scratch daily.

Owner Denise Chung decided to open up a second location in town after 8 years of success with her popular family business in Aina Haina serving a wide variety of homemade Vietnamese food.

There are 17 different pho to choose from and 5 specialty vermicelli noodle soups like Crab Meat Soup, Beef Stew with French Bread Baguette and Spicy Noodle Beef Soup.

Mama Pho’s most popular dishes, no surprise, are the homeade pho which feature broth in three flavors – beef, chicken and vegetarian.  

Other top sellers are lemongrass chicken, banh mi sandwiches, and vermicelli noodle bowls.  

Denise invited Tannya into the kitchen to show how she makes The Mama Pho Special, a beef broth pho that comes with six different types of beef served with vegetables on the side.  

Mama Pho also makes up a special “Volcano Sauce” to spice up dishes and you can even buy a jar to take home.

To pair with your pho, you can order a Vietnamese iced coffee, tea, fresh lime soda, Tiger beer, or wine.

Mama Pho’s new space is part of Ala Moana Center’s Hookipa Terrace on the 4th floor.

It is open Monday-Sunday for lunch and dinner from 10:30am-10:30pm.

The Aina Haina Shopping Center location is also open for lunch and dinner. The hours for Mama Pho’s East Oahu spot are Sunday-Thursday, 11:00am-9:00pm, Friday & Saturday, 11:00am-10:00pm.
