1- Cruciferous vegetables such as kale, cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbage remain undigested until bacteria in your gut ferment them which produces gas and, in turn, makes you bloat. Solutions: Start with smaller portions and work up to larger portions as your body adjusts, steaming your cruciferous veggies might also help reduce some of the bloating because it’s a shame to give them up because cruciferous veggies are also high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants so they’re a good part of a healthy diet.
2- Onions, especially raw, have soluble fibers that aren’t easily digested that can cause bloating. Solutions: Cooking the onions may reduce these digestive effects and reduce bloating. You should also consider using fresh herbs or spices as an alternative.
3- Garlic also has compounds that can cause bloating, belching and gas. Solutions: Cooking the garlic may reduce the negative effects. You can also try using other herbs and spices in your cooking, such as thyme, parsley, chives or basil.
4- Carbonated drinks contain high amounts of carbon dioxide so as you take sips, you end up swallowing large amounts of this gas which can cause uncomfortable bloating and even cramping. Solutions: Choose other drinks such as plain water, coffee, tea or fruit-flavored still water.
5- Apples are also problematic because fructose and fiber can both be fermented in the large intestine, and may cause gas and bloating. Solutions: Cooked apples may be easier to digest than fresh ones, also consider other options, such as bananas, blueberries, grapefruit, mandarins, oranges or strawberries.
