Eden in Love uses power of retail to make a world of difference

Eden in Love, a local boutique specializing in women’s apparel, accessories, and home décor, is proving that retail can change the world.

In 2012, the boutique entered a contest hosted by the National Retail Federation with the commitment to launch an international initiative if it won first place.

That victory led owner Tanna Dang and her team to adopt a village in Sri Lanka, working with the program Global Hope Network International.

Jeff Power, director of partner development, says Global Hope Network’s mission is to lift poor villages out of poverty and become sustainable.

It focuses on transformational community development, an approach that is coaching-based rather than donation-based.

For five years, Eden in Love raised money to adopt the village through retail promotions, product sales, and community partners.

“You realize you don’t want to put a huge piece of expensive equipment or machinery in this village that doesn’t know how to maintain it or upkeep it,” Dang said. “It’s been radical, the changes that they’ve made in the last five years.”

Dang thanks her shoppers and community partners for making a difference, and encourages others to do the same.
