The best of local and world class jazz will join forces for a Big Band Bash on Sunday, March 3rd at Hawaii Theater.
Kevin Pease, Director of Performing Arts for ‘Iolani School previewed the event with Tim Ishii, Director of Jazz Studies, UT-Arlington on Living808 about the success of The Hawaii Jazz Institute.
What began 5 years ago as a summer workshop has since evolved into a school jazz festival with clinics and guest artists.
According to Pease, “The goal is to bring together students from around the island and offer learning and performance opportunities from expert musicians like Tim Ishii.”
Iolani began its relationship with UT-Arlington over the years and wanted to involve other schools so that students could not only benefit from learning from professional musicians, but build friendships with students from other schools through a common interest in jazz.
Bands from Ewa Makai Middle School, Kailua High School, Waipahu High School and Iolani School will perform.
The showcase will also feature The Jazz Collective, an all-star band, led by trumpet sensation Eric Miyashiro.
The Big Band Bash is Sunday, March 3 at 4pm at Hawaii Theater.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on Hawaii Theater’s website or at the door.
