Many of us love celebrating the 4th of July with the booming sounds and flashing lights of fireworks but, fireworks can be terrifying and overwhelming for pets.
Dr. Edhlund with VCA Gentle Vets suggests getting tranquilizers for your pets to help keep them comfortable and calm.
He also recommends keeping your dog or cat indoors with the windows and doors closed.
According to Dr. Edhlund, some pets may try to run away if spooked, so it’s also important to make sure they have a microchip.
Another concern is the heat.
“Dogs overheat easily. If you suspect overheating, wet your dog with a hose and get to a vet quickly. VCA Emergency Center in Pearl City is open 24 hours with a full staff,” says Dr. Edhlund.
