Young mother works to support two daughters

HONOLULU (KHON2) - KHON2 is once again partnering with Keiki O Ka Aina for our Laulima Giving Program. Every day, we'll share a story of a family or someone who may be going through a rough time and could use some help this holiday season.

Today's Laulima family is facing an unexpected setback. As a young mother gets ahead, her finances decrease.

Mom has two girls, a 9-year-old and an 11-month-old. She's a single mother who's been working very hard to create a stable home life while trying to get ahead. In fact, she recently earned a promotion.

But with that, she lost financial assistance, which means her income has actually dropped. She's determined to stay positive, continue to work hard and continue to move up.

But for now, there's nothing left for the holidays and for gifts.

For her 9-year-old, in addition to the need for bedding, toiletries, and clothes, her favorite colors are pink and teal. She would also be thrilled to get new soccer shoes with cleats.

Her 11-month-old could use toys and clothing.

For Mom, she says household cleaning supplies, kitchenware, she could use a small microwave oven, and gas or grocery gift cards would be greatly appreciated.
