Sober mother turning life around

KHON2 is once again partnering with Keiki O Ka Aina for our Laulima Giving Program. Every day, we’ll share a story of a family or someone who may be going through a rough time and could use some help this holiday season.

Two years ago, Mom was recovering from drug addiction and living in an emergency homeless shelter without her children. Then she qualified for housing and within a year, she turned herself around.

She’s been sober and reunited with her children, but she also has epilepsy and can’t work yet, so she’s at home while Dad works. She plans to get a job once she gets her medical condition under control and once she gets her GED, which she’s working on and hopes to earn next year.

Her 10-year-old daughter would love hair and nail accessories.

Her 9-year-old son would like art supplies.

Her 2-year-old daughter would like sandals.

Dad just said he needs socks and ear-cleaning supplies.

As for Mom, she could use pots, pans, a can opener and a vacuum.
