As popular as social media, the internet and television are, radio still has a major role in providing information and enjoyment.
Especially now more than ever for seniors, as there is a program specifically for them.
At the radio station, Kupuna Wiki host Brandon Lau takes the show to a quick break: “Don’t go away. Coming up next, we have our Kupuna Wiki classic trivia.”
Kupuna Wiki has its fun, but mostly, as its name suggests, it’s like an encyclopedia of senior topics with experts.
“Basically what we do is provide information, resources from professionals in the areas such as estate planning, finance, health, senior housing, and real estate,” Lau said.
Lau is a realtor by trade. His group at Locations brain-stormed Kupuna Wiki, which is more than a radio program.
“Because we service a lot of kupuna, we thought, how can we create a resource that’s going to help them make the best decisions as they transition in life? So we put together a network, we put it online with kupunawiki.com. We have monthly classes, and we also have a radio show now which has been airing for about a year,” Lau said.
While Lau has a great voice for radio, that’s not what clinched his role as host.
“No that was by default I think. I do love radio. I love it as a medium for communication. I think it was more a matter of my passion to really want to inform the community and seniors,” he said with a laugh.
Kupuna Wiki airs for 30 minutes on weekends on AM and FM radio stations Saturdays and Sundays at 8:30 a.m. or Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
