According to HPD, officers were sent to Tokuhara Acupuncture and Healthcare on Waipahu Depot Street at around 8 a.m. on Jan. 13, where they found Tokuhara’s body inside with a gunshot wound. HPD then initiated a murder investigation.
In the news conference, HPD said the two persons of interest are a man and a woman, and Tokuhara had been romantically involved with the woman. Investigators said that they tried to question both persons of interest but they hired attorneys, and police added they are not cooperating.
“We would like to thank the victim’s friends and family who have come forward and cooperated with this investigation,” Lt. Thoemmes continued.
HPD also said they have obtained search warrants for the persons of interest, as well as their vehicle and residence. They are continuing with the investigation.

After Tokuhara’s body was found on Jan. 13, investigators said he had been fatally shot. A few days later, dozens of friends and loved ones gathered outside the business asking for justice. They stated that Tokuhara was an amazing acupuncturist with a special healing touch.
Loved ones of Tokuhara said the new developments in the case are one step closer to getting justice.
“This tragedy has really brought the community together and Waipahu,” said Nicole Trazo, a childhood friend of Tokuhara. “The community, our friends, everybody has just rallied together and shown so much support for the family.”
Tokuhara’s loved ones added that they are not giving up and hope arrests are made soon. In the meantime, they need the public’s help.
“Please come forward. It may be that small bit of information that helps blow this case wide open, and we just want people to be brave in this and to do the right thing. Someone’s life was taken senselessly and by bringing closure to this it can the whole community heal,” Lorenzo explained.
